You had me by the point you observed: ' It seemed to me only natural that someone inclined to introspection would write a story like “Quality,” which patiently burrows into the modest but artful industriousness of a cobbler’s shop, like a mouse burrowing into the toe of a shoe. ' I was already curious about Galsworthy but somehow had displaced him and ignored him so now I'm ready to leap in but first, wow, I'd love to pull up to a bowl of leeks spread then into multiple recipes and eaten with relish into the winter months. Stimulated again. Hungry now. Thanks, Ruby!
Interesting about the Dansko clogs. Will have to check them out. A few years ago we ran into a hiker carrying a canoe and a pack on the Grand Portage trail that runs along the US Canadian border at the northwest corner of Lake Superior. He was wearing Oofos and swore by them. Since then our family of 6 is pretty well hooked on them. We are all on our feet a lot, running forestry work and beekeeping and they sure feel nice on tired feet.
Posted link on X.. thanks Ruby for your great work.
I appreciate that!
Wonderful! Thank you.

Yes, it seems Galsworthy was popular in his day but then fell out of favor. It was a pleasure to become acquainted!
This was a great little story, thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
We read this in one of my high school literature classes. That would be in about 1952. Back in those days quality was something to be admired.
It still is, albeit by a smaller set ;)
