Welcome to Classics Read Aloud!
If this publication has just found you for the first time, this page a great place to start.
Classics Read Aloud is an invitation to share the simple pleasure of losing oneself in works of great literature, a feeling that too many of us lose touch with as we leave childhood and become preoccupied with the endless demands of adult life.
At least once a week, I aim to publish audio recordings of stories that are truly worth listening to, from short stories to fairy tales to novel excerpts. For those who are trying to fall back in love with reading after a lengthy absence, being read to can make literature accessible and joyous again. It is a bridge back to your attention span and appetite for slower, more thoughtful diversions. For educators and homeschooling parents (I have been the latter), these readings can acquaint young learners with the wealth of classic works that the years have piled up behind them.
Whatever your situation may be, I hope to show that you are never too old to enjoy being read to, and there is no downside to spending time with a good book. If you can take some time to set aside distractions, get cozy, and truly immerse yourself in the stories, all the better.
We will, of course, visit many familiar names, but we will also uncover hidden gems that even lifelong readers are unlikely to have heard of. In addition to the recordings, I will often include resources and observations in the accompanying write-up that have inspired me in my efforts to lead a more human and engaging way of life. I even write the occasional essay! My hope is that subscribers to this publication will come to appreciate not only the intrinsic value of great works of literature but also the role that reading can play in a larger lifestyle oriented toward those things that truly matter in life.

About Ruby Love
For me, Classics Read Aloud is a dream come true and a project of pure joy. After a childhood of avid reading, I lost touch with the practice while building my career and reconnected with it when our family transitioned to homeschooling during the pandemic. Sitting down with good books has been one of the great joys of my life, and I started this publication in the hopes of sharing that feeling with others. I believe that literature and art are critical elements of a truly human life. If you feel similarly, I aim to create an oasis in a world that increasingly neglects these things in favor of quicker and cheaper forms of gratification.
